Susan & David – Autumn Wedding at The Crab & Boar, Newbury

Susan and David celebrated their wedding at The Crab & Boar in Newbury, a well-known and fully licensed wedding venue on Wantage Road, Chieveley. Set overlooking the rolling Berkshire countryside, it’s a fantastic location for couples wanting a relaxed pub wedding with beautiful surroundings.

Although the weather certainly reminded us it was the middle of autumn, the venue itself still delivered. The pub makes a great backdrop, and on drier days the surrounding fields and woodland offer some lovely opportunities for couple portraits. Sadly, the conditions meant we couldn’t fully explore the grounds this time, but even so, The Crab & Boar still worked beautifully for the day.

Susan and David were absolute stars throughout. They’ve been together for a long time, but the emotion of the day was clearly there to see — natural, relaxed, and completely at ease with one another. Add in great conversations, welcoming family and friends, and it made for a really enjoyable wedding to photograph.

From a photographer’s point of view, lighting can be a challenge in certain areas and the venue is quite compact, so planning your routes and key photo spots is essential. That said, it’s a great licensed venue, and with the right approach, it photographs really well.
